Kristine Rivers (née Wilson) grew up in Manvel, Texas, where she met her first boyfriend and future husband, Bobby Rivers, in Junior High. She attended the University of Oklahoma, majoring first in Professional Zoology with a primary interest in Ornithology from 1983-1985, and then in Art from 1987-1989.
An avid birder since childhood, she participated in her first Christmas Bird Count (CBC) with the National Audubon Society at age 14. Continuing to participate in multiple counts each year since that time, she has been an Area Leader for the Brazoria-Columbia Bottomlands CBC since 2013, and for the Galveston West End CBC since 2019.
Kristine and Bobby were engaged in 2011, and married in 2013. They founded Birding for Fun in 2015, providing guided tours and workshops that embrace the philosophy that birding should be accessible to everyone. They expanded the business in 2019 to include sales of their unique hand-crafted driftwood art, which they enjoy creating together.
Kristine has provided nature-based education for both children and adults for the Cities of Pearland, Meadows Place, Missouri City and League City, as well as UTMB’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) in both Galveston and Angleton. She became a certified Texas Master Naturalist in 2016, and was the President of the Cradle of Texas Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists from 2017 until 2019. Kristine has been a presenter and field trip leader for Galveston’s FeatherFest since 2016, and is a popular guest speaker for the Galveston County Audubon Group, a division of the Houston Audubon Society; the Ornithology Group, Houston; Texas Master Naturalists; and Texas Master Gardeners.
She is available for speaking engagements for your organization, and would be happy to develop workshops, field trips or guided tours specific to your needs. For more information, please contact Kristine by email at email@example.com.
